Creating Mental Images
“When readers create mental images, they engage with text in ways that make it personal and memorable to them alone…” (Keene and Zimmermann in Miller, 2002)

How can we help students learn to create mental images?- Visualizing from a vivid piece of text *Texts must be chosen carefully for their rich descriptions - Creating mental images that go beyond visualizing
*Should include all five senses - Explicitly modeling our thought processes, including specific references to the background knowledge in which our mental images are grounded
