Some of you have seen/heard this, but I think it is worth repeating...
COMPREHENSION
Creating Mental Images
“When readers create mental images, they engage with text in ways that make it personal and memorable to them alone…” (Keene and Zimmermann in Miller, 2002)

How can we help students learn to create mental images?- Visualizing from a vivid piece of text *Texts must be chosen carefully for their rich descriptions - Creating mental images that go beyond visualizing
*Should include all five senses - Explicitly modeling our thought processes, including specific references to the background knowledge in which our mental images are grounded

Introductions

Welcome to TIPSfromTEACHERS!

I am so pleased that you joined us. Many of us are located in Cameron, Texas and teach on the Ben Milam Elementary campus, but we welcome teachers, leaders, and technology specialists from other locations.

This blog is designed for PK and K teachers and others who serve children ages 3-6 in an educational setting. I welcome your input since this site is for all of us to share ideas and issues. As an online learning community, our goal is to improve technology use and integration on our campuses. Schools all over our state are striving to meet the goals of the Texas Long-range Plan for Technology by 2020, and in this endeavor our learning community will provide support for each other, as well as discover and use new methods of instruction by incorporating technology.

I have included a heading on each page under which I hope you will post helpful websites. I also encourage you to write about any ideas that you have found to bring about success in your students. Feel free to also add attempts that did not work and request suggestions in the discussion section. If you discover that a page has not been created to fit your post, go ahead and create one. I welcome all of your thoughts and ideas, and you are welcome to invite other educators to join, as well.

We are all in this for the students, so I truly hope you will find helpful ideas to employ in your class. I also encourage you to contribute ideas that may be of help to others with precious little ones in their care. God bless you in your service to His children.
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. I Peter 4:10
